Murmures Magazine was about culture in the french part of Switzerland and featured a great diversity in the topics covered (from books to games, from theater to travels). It was also a free publication maintained by a big team of benevolent spreaded across a large zone with no dedicated offices to host everyone.
One of the main objective of the site was to provide a distributed service for everyone to publish their articles in a controlled manner. Back in 2004, WordPress wasn’t fit for this yet and other CMS were clunky and difficult to customise. Customisation was key as business processes changed frequently due to the big turnover in the association.
At the time, designing a content-management system from scratch was the least troublesome option in order to maintain control over the information system and adapt it to the ever-changing processes. Using PHP and MySQL, I developed the website front and back office pages.
